What is Ihram for Hajj Umrah



Ihraam, Information regarding how to wear, restrictions of Ihram for Hajj Umrah.

According to Shariah, Ihram means to enter into a sacred state of purity in which person is prohibited to use particular Halal (lawful) things, like wearing stitched clothing, hair cut, use of perfume, hunting, interaction with wife and after pilgrim says Niyyah for performing Hajj or Umrah and recites Talbiyah. Usually the two white coloured sheets that male pilgrim puts on when he enters in the state of Ihram. For Women, Ihram is their own cloths but that must not show any of her body part for that females use abaya to hide their body. A pilgrim can change his Ihram as he likes, whether they get dirty, polluted or not. Some people think this wrongly that once these Ihram sheets are put on, they can not be taken off. A person can comes out of the sacred state of Ihram in which he had entered with the niyyat of performing Umrah or Hajj, only when he or she completes all the essential and recommended rites of Hajj or Umrah and has head shaved or hair cut short (Halq and Taqseer).


* To wear Ihram at the station of Meeqat, but in not any case beyond it. Ihram can also be wear at home or at the time of departure. Anyhow it is very important not to cross station of Meeqat without being in the state of Ihram.


* To take off the garments that is stitched (for men). Men can not use stitched garments as long as a pilgrim remains in the sacred state of Ihram.

* To abstain yourself from the things that are forbidden in the state of Ihram.

* Before taking the ritual bath a pilgrim should have to cut his or her nails and also shave his armpits and pubic hair. A pilgrim must give special attention to purity and cleanliness before he or she get in to Ihram.

* When a pilgrim takes a ritual bath, he or she should do the Niyyah that this bath is taking to assume Ihram.

* It is suitable if the sheets of Ihram are white in colour but coloured sheets for Ihram are also permissible.

* While in state of Ihram, it is forbidden to wear a stitched pair of slippers or shoes that cover the upper bone in the middle of the foot. So, the footwear (like flip-flop sandal) be of the type that must leaves the area of the raised bone of foot exposed.

* While being in Ihram, it is prohibited for male to wear socks, gloves or tie a piece of cloth on face and head.

* While in the state of Ihram, it is forbidden for both women and men to cover their faces.

* In the state of Ihram, it is prohibited for men to cover or hide their heads, either whole head or a slight part of it.

* A pilgrim is not allowed to hunt any animals that live on land but he or she can eat the meat of a chicken, a cow, a goat and a camel.

* A pilgrim must not kill lice of his head, clothes or body and should not hurt them or remove it from there. It is permissible to kill those animals from which there is a danger of life, hurtful animals like a snake, a scorpion, or a bug, etc.

* While in the state of Ihram, it is forbidden to use perfume (because it contains alcohol), to remove hair from any part of the body and to trim nails.

* Sin is a sin, either it is committed in the state of Ihram or without it so avoid involving in any kind of sin.

* It is Makrooh for a pilgrim to comb his beard or hair or to scratch his or her head or beard in such a manner that hair broken or pulled out.

* It is Makrooh for a pilgrim to remove any dirt from his body and to comb hair.

* It has been confirmed by many reliable sources while on the flight to Makkah, the pilgrims are supplied perfumed or tissue wet tissue napkins, and unknowingly, pilgrims wipe their face and hands with them. So be aware of that, do not use perfumed tissues.

* A pilgrim while wearing Ihram for Hajj and Umrah can say the Niyyah in his heart or by tongue.

After the intention, a pilgrim must recite Talbiyah loudly, recite it thrice. A woman must not pronounce Talbiyah in a loud voice.

* A person should keep this in mind that the state of Ihram is not accomplished and a person does not considered as pilgrim unless he or she declares the Niyyah and recites Talbiyah. To enter into the state of Ihram it is essential to make Niyyah and recite Talbiyah.
